Canadian ICT program reforms will not affect Indian IT companies

Chris Alexander, Canada's minister for citizenship and immigration, said that the change in visa rules will not affect Information Technology (IT) of India following the concern expressed by the members of Nasscom over the change in the visa rules pertaining to the deployment of executives on duty to Canada.

The major concern of Indian IT sector is about the change in Intra Company Transfer program, which is exerted by companies to send their employees to Canada.

Government of Canada has decided to reform ICT program subsequent to complaints regarding the misuse of the program. However, the minister denied that Indian companies were wrongly using the program.

The Minister said that Canada offers a wide range of visa options that authorizes companies to send their employees to Canada. Employees who are not eligible for ICT program are allowed to be sent on either temporary work permits depending on certain conditions or on permanent resident visas.
