Edmonton greeted 750 new citizens at citizenship ceremonies

Edmonton, the capital of Alberta (Canadian province), welcomed around 750 new Canadians from over 90 nations at six ceremonies held at the Stanley A. Milner Library.

These ceremonies demonstrate the government’s effort in making the citizenship program more efficient and helping people who are interested to become a Canadians.

It is expected that the new fast-track decision-making process and other amendments made to the Citizenship Act will reduce the processing time for citizenship applications down to one year and also minimizes the current backlog rate by 80 % over next two years.

Briefing on the same, Citizenship and Immigration Minister of Canada, Chris Alexander said that the government is pleased to welcome new citizens. He added that the new citizens taking part in the ceremonies and accepting the rights and responsibilities that come along with citizenship demonstrates that the government’s efforts to the citizenship program are working.
