Myanmar keen on visa waiver program of Asean countries

Myanmar is in talks with Asean countries for waiving off visa programme for Myanmar nationals to enter the Asean countries. Stressing on the need of Myanmar immigrants to enter the remaining nine countries of Asean without visa, Myanmar’s immigration and population minister Khin Yi has said that the Asean common visa scheme permits Myanmar nationals to enter any of the Asean countries without the need of obtaining a visa.

Exuding his confidence that the talks with the foreign ministers of nine countries would turn fruitful, the minister has said that it would be expected to happen by 2015.

Out of all the Asean countries, only Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines and Vietnam allow Myanmar nationals for a 14-day visa free entry. After two weeks, Myanmar tourists who intend to extend their stay in these countries are required to move out the country and apply for an entry visa.

Now that Myanmar immigration minister is keen on the visa waiver programs for Myanmar nationals, the immigration and tourism experts are of the opinion that Asean countries’ tourism sectors would touch new high.
