The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants has launched a new website and app to help young immigrants to Canada pass the Citizenship test and to learn about the benefits of citizenship.

Users of the website get to earn badges as they complete the online educational tasks. The site, which is called, citizenshipcounts.ca has been launched to help young people across Canada pass the citizenship tests. The site will also explain how to apply for a citizenship test and help people to study for the test.

CitizenshipCounts.ca has been funded by Citizen and Immigration Canada. The Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants is working alongside several Canadian-based partners to help make the project a success.

Organizations such as settlement.org, NewYouth.ca and the Richmond Public Library are all involved with the new website. For instance, The Richmond Public Library has made a copy of the Canadian citizenship test available online so that immigrants can practise the test online before completing it.

The site has been designed to be educational as well as fun. Visitors of the site can compete with others and share the badges they have earned on social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

For people who are totally new to the immigration process, there is also plenty of information available on how to become a Canadian citizen. Just by following the links, people can find out if they are eligible for citizenship. If they are, then they can learn what they need to do next.

Moreover, there are details on the site about the benefits of Canadian citizenship. For instance, once citizenship has been approved, immigrants will then be entitled to vote, get involved in politics, travel becomes easier, and they’ll be eligible to apply for jobs.

CitizenshipCounts.ca has made many resources available for immigrants to Canada, such as the “Discover Canada” guide. Visitors can also find many other resources on the site, including a myth buster section, which will help give would-be immigrants a better picture of what immigration to Canada requires.

Although the site is aimed at younger people, it is also extremely useful for anyone who has plans to migrate to Canada. The site can be found at citizenshipcounts.ca/

Commenting on the new site, Debbie Douglas, Executive Director of OCASI, said:

"Many immigrant and refugee youth are unsure of what it means to be a Canadian citizen, or are unaware of their citizenship status. Complications arise if they try to travel or get charged with a crime."

"We are confident that Citizenshipcounts.ca will help change that trend."
