Rise in number of Nepali Students seeking higher education abroad

Nepali student exceeds the previous record in terms of receiving no objection letter

Nepali students choosing for higher education overseas have increased significantly and it is obvious from the fact that 2013/14 financial year saw maximum number of applicants for a letter of no objection from the Ministry of Education (MoE) for foreign studies.

According to recent data released by the Ministry, 28,126 students have received the letters from MoE surpassing the record of financial year 2010/11, when an aggregate of 26,948 students received the letters.

Australia stood on the top of the list followed by Japan, the USA and Malaysia with regard to choice of destinations for studies. 

Of the aggregate receivers of no objection letter, 11,184 have set out for Australia and 7,933 for Japan while 1,456 aimed for the US and 1,190 for Malaysia.

Officials said that more than 80% of the applicants receive visa following the display of MoE´s no objection letter.

Dilli Rimal, MoE Joint Secretary, said that the youth of Nepal is setting out to over 60 nations on student visas.
