Taiwan"s push to attract entrepreneur visa

As part of the government plans to make Taiwan a place for innovative entrepreneurship in the region of Asia Pacific, Taiwan will start accepting entrepreneur visa applications from the foreign nationals on 31 July 2015 onwards, announced ministry of foreign affairs on Tuesday.

Foreign nationals can apply for Taiwan entrepreneur visa at its overseas representative offices or directly to the Ministry of consular affairs in Taiwan.

Amid the global rising trend to attract innovative entrepreneurship, the ministry hopes the Taiwan entreprenuership visa program will attract more businesses and entrepreneurs to Taiwan and stimulate the economy, by paving for startup activity.

Taiwan new entrepreneur visa for foreign nationals

During the initial trial phase, foreign citizens including from Macau and Hong Kong will be eligible while mainland Chinese nationals will be excluded, said the ministry.

Foreign applicants of Macau and Hong Kong must submit their respective applications to Taiwan’s mainland affairs council. Later, the review committee under the ministry of foreign affairs will screen the applications.

After receiving the Taiwan entrepreneur visa, foreign citizens can apply for an alien resident visa, first-time applicants are allowed to stay for one year and later can extend for two years.

However, there is a 2000 entrepreneur visa quota for every year in place, the government will review the program and will make the adjustments accordingly, added ministry.
