US to enhance Abu Dhabi immigration pre-clearance

Abu Dhabi International Airport is set to install automated passport scanners at the US immigration clearance counter to avoid long queues and delay in the flights.

Earlier, the airport has got approval to prescreen passengers and process customs declarations before they get on the flights to the US. However, this service could not meet the raised demand from passengers and further resulted in frequent flight delays.

The service that is being planned by US Customs and Border Protection is to introduce automatic passport scanners is intended for the passengers from Canada, US and other nations applicable for US visa-waiver scheme, like UK, according to The National. It is anticipated that this technology will be launched within six to eight weeks.

Over 40% of passengers will be qualified to use automatic passport scanners, thereby decreasing the number of passengers, who are required to go through a US immigration official for processing.
