Over 10 lakh foreigners are estimated to get the facility of highly successful e-tourist visa which is now being offered to around 150 nations this year, and which is almost double than the previous year.
According to the official sources, last year, around five lakh overseas tourists has availed the facility of this e-tourist visa, that makes 25% of the entire number of tourists arrivals in the nation. The government is planning to grant around 10 lakh e-tourist visa this year.
Tourist visa on arrival which is enabled by the Electronic Travel Authorization, also called as e-tourist visa scheme was started on 27th November 2014.
Under this scheme, an applicant gets an email authorizing them to travel to India after its approval and they can also take the print out of that authorization.
Upon arrival, the foreign visitor has to present the authorization to the authorities of immigration who will then stamp the entry into the nation.
Until now, this scheme has been increased to 150 countries at around 16 airports that are designated to provide the service of e-tourist visa.
Since the start of this scheme, over 7.5 lakh visa has been granted. That makes on an average around 3,500 e-visas are being issued daily to foreign citizens.
