Canada becomes preferable destination for Indian techies

Canada rolled out to be the sought destination for Indian venture capitalists and techie entrepreneurs, as the process for getting US tech visas for Indians has become more stringent.

Chris Alexander, Citizenship and Immigration Minister of Canada, said to TOI that the Canadian Government will offer permanent residence for those individuals who can acquire Canadian venture capital or an investor who will support them financially. It is a pilot project and a couple of hundred applications are in the process.

The Canadian permanent residency can be easily acquired by self-investors. The country welcomes Indian nationals who desire to buy a Canadian company and they can apply for permanent residency if they were employed as a manager or the principal for a period of one year, he added.

Canada is an immigration country that has been successfully driving various sectors including technology, resource and finance. By considering several factors into account including English education and skills, Indians have secured highest position in the acceptability chart.

Over 33,000 immigrants from India have entered the country in 2013, of which 60% were economic migrants and rest being families.

Canada has stopped an immigration program referred as immigrant investor program, which will be replaced by a new pilot program. The country requires immigrants who can invest more and to make a real investment in the venture capital field. It is expected that this program will be launched over this year.

The country has issued over 1,30,000 visitor visas to Indian nationals and around 14,000 students from India have entered the country for studying in the previous year.
