Canada china transit program expands to five Chinese cities

Canada’s citizenship and immigration has announced to add new Chinese cities in the China transit program that allows the eligible Chinese travelers transit with free Visa through Canada international airports in their en route to and from the USA.

The new five departure cities of China that are going to add in the program are Xiamen, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Harbin and Shenyang in addition to the already listed Chinese cities Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing in the program.

"Expansion of visa-free travel to more cities in Asia is good not only for Canada's international hub airports but also for the wider airports community that can benefit from increased connectivity to new destinations," said Daniel-Robert-Gooch, president of Canadian airports Council, welcoming the further expansion of the China transit program.

The Canada-china air transport agreement that was last updated in 2013 facilitated an increase of about 14 percent in China and Canada air traffic in between 2013 and 2014. In the year, 2014 china-Canada market have generated around 1.5 million passenger trip, making Canada the fifth largest country in international air transport. 

In the last year, China was the second largest export destination of Canada, with the exports being valued nearly 19.3 billion USD an increase of 45.7 percent over the last five years.

A new office will also be opening soon in Guangzhou to expedite deeper travel and trade ties with the Chinese citizens traveling to Canada, also expanding the CIC presence in China.
