Parents and Grandparents Program: Removal of a lottery system

IRCC has replaced the controversial lottery system for PGP Program with the timing of arrival approach to accept applications. This system attracted extensive criticism and was unfair to many persons waiting for years to sponsor their loving relatives. The Government subsequently withdrew it. Moreover, the present application process is flexible.

The eligibility norms to sponsor parents /grandparents are:

• An age of 18 years
• Being A Canadian citizen or PR
• Meeting  income requirements

Upon the arrival of parents/grandparents to Canada after obtaining the sponsorship, the applicant also has to provide financial support to them.  They must not be dependent on governmental social assistance.

The interested persons in sponsoring have to first submit an Interest-to-Sponsor form to the IRCC. Once the program opens, the authorities invite the persons who submitted the Interest to Sponsor form for applying to the sponsorship.
