Canada Express Entry scheme introduced by citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC) in January 2015 is a new electronic system to manage and process the applications for permanent residence in Canada to the skilled immigrants under economic immigration programs.

The express entry program has bought new transformation in the Canada’s immigration system. In the express entry scheme, potential candidates will be pooled based on the information provided by the applicants. Later, in the express entry draw, which is regularly conducted by the citizenship and immigration Canada (CIC), highest scoring applicants will be awarded an invitation (ITA) to apply for permanent residence.
Express entry profile
Applicants provided information will be assessed by comprehensive ranking system to determine eligibility of the applicant with its predetermined criteria, such as
- Work experience,
- Skills,
- Language ability,
- Education, and
- Other details with potential traits of a person
Applicants can create an express entry profile at any time, as there are no caps on the number of candidates to be accepted into the pool.
Express entry draw
In every short interval, CIC conducts an express entry draw to determine the number of invitations to be awarded based on the cutoff score provided by the points based comprehensive ranking system for the available pool.
In the express entry draw, candidates will be awarded an invitation (ITA) based on the valid job offer by Canadian employer and candidates skills and work experience. However, candidates can get additional points if they have
- A job offer validated by Labour market impact assessment
- A nomination from any province of Canada
The express entry shortlisted candidates will be required to go ahead filling the second set of applications for permanent residence. They will have to submit an online application within 60 days from the date of invitation received.
In general, CIC processes most of the applications in six months or less. Applicant stays in the pool for up to 12 months, if an applicant did not receive any invitation in 12 months he/she can resubmit the application with new express entry profile.
Express entry province nominee program
Canada provinces also offer nomination for a certain candidate by the programs on its own in the lines of federal express entry program, if applicant job or work experience fulfills the requirement in that province.
