Foreign tourist arrivals and earnings has increased last month

Arrivals of overseas tourists to India have witnessed a double-digit increase previous month when compared to the arrivals in the month of April previous year. However, the increase in overseas exchange incomes was high.

According to the information that was revealed by the Tourism Ministry, last month, around 5.99 lakh overseas travellers had visited India, with an increase of 10.97% when compared to 5.42 lakh during the same period last year. 

Around 18% travellers from Bangladesh arrived in India which was followed by the US and the UK. Other important nations were Malaysia, China and SriLanka.

Since the start of this year, the arrival of overseas travellers has increased to 10.1% to around 31.08 lakh when compared to around 28.3 lakh last year.

India, which is Asia’s third-biggest economy, has earned around $1.75 billion in foreign exchange earnings last month which is an increase of 8.7% when compared to $1.60 billion last year ago.

Since January till April this year, foreign exchange earnings were $7.73 billion which is an increase of 7.2% compared to $7.21 billion in the same period the previous year.
