France intends to open visa application centre in Kochi
The offices for Campus France, the higher education promotion agency of France and visa applications will be opened by France by the end of this year.
 
On 22nd March, 2014, Francois Richier, French ambassador to India, had attended a meeting, which included the leaders of French businesses, after which he had revealed the discussed information in the meeting to the media reporters.

Campus France is aimed at reaching out to institutions of higher education in Kerala and is intended to establish the relationship of these higher educational institutions with their counterparts in France.

Across India, France has 400 active MoU’s with the educational institutions of India, each of which is sending a minimum of 1 student to France every year.

Last year the government of France had issued 3,000 visas to the students of India. Of the total no of visas issued, 300 of them were provided visas on scholarships provided by France scholarships.

The companies of France have made an investment of $19 billion in India so far, and over the past 5 years the rate of investment in the companies of India every year was $1 billion.

Richier has said that the companies of France are setting up centres of research in India and approximately 10 percent of the investment is moved into development and research.
