Germany gives 170 work visas under updated Employment Ordinance

Work visa system was simplified for the citizens of non EU countries through the updated Employment Ordinance, which came into effect in July 2013.

Employers could recruit non European Union citizens having specific qualification without requiring to find suitable EU citizen or a German for the role under the new rules.

According to figures revealed by federal Labour Ministry (BA), 170 work visas have been given since the time the law came into effect. The simplified visa rules were intended to bring in workers required to occupy positions of aging workforce in Germany.

According to Confederation of German Employers Association, qualified professionals are still required in many regions of the country. Electrical machine engineers, elderly care specialists, plumbers and nursing professionals are included in the white list of BA.
