The airports in Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Goa witness lengthy queues at counters of immigration during the peak hours, especially in the night hours. Passengers frequently complain of lengthy queues at the counters of immigration on the arrival at the city airport.

According to an airport official, around 95% of international flights from Ahmedabad operates at night which leads to lengthy waiting period.

On an average each month around 70,000 to 80,000 passengers fly from Ahmedabad international airport. There are 21 international airports in India including Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Amritsar, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Bengaluru, Port Blair, Srinagar and Chennai.

Home Ministry has put some measures for ensuring hassle fee exit and entry for the foreigners and Indians to the nation, without compromising the security. The decision of hiring individuals would help in minimizing the load of work of the existing staff. The new form for immigration with fewer fields for filling by the passengers has been introduced recently. The requirement for filling the form for immigration when they are coming back to India had been done away with.

Presently, there are around 50,000 officials for immigration working all over India. With the new initiations, the number will increase significantly.

The rise in number of officials for immigration would help in managing the flow of travellers which is likely to rise because of the e-tourist visas.

The previous year, India launched the facility of e-tourist visa for over 40 countries which also includes the US.
