India to launch E-visa's to assist travelers

Indian central government is planning to establish systems similar to e-visa (electronic visa) and wishes to extend the possibilities for visa-on-arrivals, with an aim to relax visa rules.

Shripad Naik, Union Tourism Minister of India, said that travelers can file online applications at their country of residence through this e-visa system. After finishing the processing of applications, they will receive the travel authorization document, prior to the travel.

He added that India is willing to make this facility available to most of the countries. Thereby, the scope of visa-on-arrivals can be extended.

Ministry of Tourism is expected to hold talks with ministry of External Affairs with regard to reducing of the visa fees especially the fees related to short term travel visa so that it would encourage the tourists to visit India, he added.
