Montreal receives 750 new Canadians

Montreal has welcomed about 750 new Canadians from 81 nations during the three citizenship ceremonies held in the province.

The proposed changes to the Bill C-24 are expected to result in reduced wait times for citizenship processing. Thus bringing down the average time of processing of citizenship applications under 1 year and it is expected that by 2015-2016 the present backlog applications will come down by more than 80%.

Until now in 2014, approximately 17,000 have been granted Canadian citizenship at the 90 ceremonies held in the province.

Chris Alexander, Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister said that  the high number of new  Canadians indicate that the efforts put by the government to enhance the citizenship program and decrease the wait time is working effectively.
