New Zealand has seen record number of migrant arrivals from Asia and Australia

New Zealand has witnessed a latest record net gain in the number of migrants of around 65,900 during the year till the month of January. Large number of arrivals is from Asia and Australia.

The yearly benefit in the migrants has set the record for the previous one and a half year. Arrivals has been increased by 105 to around 1,23,000 during the period of January 2015 till this year’s previous month.

Out of the entire migrants that had arrived in New Zealand during the year, around 25,700 were from Australia.

Migrants arriving in New Zealand on work visa has accounted for 31% with an increase of 13% in arrival of migrants on the work visa that stood around 38,200 during the year.  The largest group came from the UK on the work visa with around 6,393 British people had arrived with an increase of 3.6%.

Meanwhile, large number of migrants also came on student visas to New Zealand with around 27,900 students with an increase of 17% during the year. Around 14,200 students came from India on student visas, while 11,300 migrants came from China, 5400 from Philippines.  The arrival of students from Philippines on the student visa has increased to 77% during the year.

New Zealand has also seen around 2.9% increase in migrants that came to New Zealand on the residence visas. Many of those came from China.

Tourism remain the key factor with the arrival of tourist has increased to 11% with around 3.7 million tourists arriving in the country. Large number of tourists came from Australia followed by the tourists from China and the US. 

Arrival of visitors for the month of January has been increased to 14% with as many as 3,43,000 people had arrived in New Zealand.
