Now Malaysians can Renew US Work Visa through Mail

February 28, 2018

Earlier, Malaysians holding US work visa had to make an appointment online to visit the United States Embassy in their home country, but now they can directly send their documents by mail. This exclusive service is eligible only for those who have a valid US visa, or it has expired in the 12 months. Even regular Malaysians travelers to the US will soon become eligible for this visa renewal by mail service.

Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, US Ambassador to Malaysia, said that American government wants to make the visa procedure more customer-oriented for Malaysians. People of Malaysia think that it is impossible or challenging to get the US visa because the process is elaborate and also has an interview. However, the truth is, 95 percent Malaysians who applied for the business visa or visitor visa have received it. 99 percent student visa applications are approved for Malaysian students. Lakhdhir said that since the process is online, it is easier for Malaysians and even easier for the embassy. Most of the visas issued are 10-year American travel visa.

After filling an online application, the applicant has to answer a list of questions for them to be eligible for the visa. Once qualified, the applicant will receive a confirmation, and once the visa is ready, the applicant is sent a mail or SMS to collect his visa from the embassy or consulate. Matt Keene, Consul General of the US, explained the new programme in a live session on Facebook that was viewed by 20,000 people.

Not sure about other countries

Lakhdhir said that she isn’t sure if the program will be eligible in other nations under the Trump administration because Malaysia and the United States have worked hard to protect international security. However, she hopes that the US waives off visa requirements for Malaysia and told that the government won’t give up on it.
