Electronic visa-on-arrival plan renamed as e-tourist visa

The Indian central government has renamed the travelers online visa plan as ‘e-Tourist Visa’ (eTV). This well-known plan was earlier known as TVoA-ETA (‘Tourist Visa on Arrival-Electronic Travel Authorisation’). With a main intention to shun confusion, the Home affairs ministry has planned to extend the scheme to more number of nations and airports in a phased mode. Earlier name of the visa plan has created a lot of perplexity among the travelers, as they have assumed that the required visa would be granted on their visit to the nation. However, the pre-approval of visa to overseas applicants is being proffered before your visit to your dream country.

Tourist Visa on Arrival-Electronic Travel Authorisation was put forth on 7 November 2014 to 44 nations at nine of the renowned airports such as Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Goa Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi to help short period foreign travelers. Since the promulgation of this online visa plan, around 1.1 lakh visas were granted, said the concerned representatives.

All the prospective overseas applicants are recommended to apply through online, upload the passport and a recent photo and pay the required charges online. After the successful completion of the online process, a potential individual will receive an ETA through e-mail in 72 hours. The 30 day authorization would encompass visiting friends and family, short period medical treatment, casual business visit, recreation and sightseeing.
