Prince Edward Island Draw with a record Low score in Business Impact category

PEI has a record low minimum score for Business Impact candidates in its recent draw under the Expression of Interest system. In the Feb 21 draw 199 candidates received the invitation in Labor Impact, EE and Business Impact categories. Additionally, 29 candidates received the invitation in Business Impact stream, having a score of 117 only. 170 candidates received the invitation in Labor Impact and EE categories.

The Island has closed its Business Impact stream in September 2018 for Total/ Partial Ownership offering a direct path to seek the PR. Additionally, in the Work Permit stream, candidates need to establish their business in the province before seeking a nomination in PR. This was the second PEI draw for the present year.

There were 11 immigration draws in 2018, and the province invited 1,240 skilled worker candidates and 206 in the Business Impact stream. The lowest point so far for Business Impact candidates is 117.

PEI Express Entry Stream



Express Entry category of PEI operates by considering candidates who already exist in the federal Express Entry Pool to seek the provincial nomination. After this nomination, they also add 600 points to CRS score of a candidate which serves as a guarantee to get the ITA.

The Streams for the P.E.I. Labor Impact Category

Applying For the P.E.I. Skilled Worker Stream


This stream also has a focus on employers and also allows skilled workers having the provincial employment offer to get the nomination for PR when they meet these criteria:

• A full-time employment offer from a local business in an occupation which is classified as skill level “0”, “A” or “B” in the NOC;

• Furthermore, completing post-secondary education, with 14 years formal education;

• Age Between 21 and 55 years ;

• Two years full time work experience in the last 5 years;

• Language proficiency (English/French) for occupying the employment;

• Adequate settlement funds; and finally

• An intention to settle in PEI


Applying For the P.E.I. Critical Worker Stream


This category caters to tackle labour shortages and is open to overseas workers who are already in employment in specific occupations in the province. The criteria for nomination are:

Full-time employment offer from a local business in occupation of:

• Truck drivers;

• Customer service representatives;

• Laborers;

• Food/ beverage servers;

• Housekeeping attendants

Other requirements are:


• Six months work experience with local business offering employment;

• A valid Canadian work permit;

• High school diploma and 12 years formal education;

• Age Between 21 and 55 years;

• Two years of full-time work experience in the last 5 years;

• Basic language proficiency;

• Adequate settlement funds; and finally

• An intention to settle in PEI


P.E.I. Business Impact Category


Work Permit Stream

The applicants in this Work Permit Stream have to obtain a work permit and also work for a local business for a specific time based on the in a Performance Agreement. Furthermore, after fulfilling the Performance Agreement, the applicant must invest $150,000 in the business and also show the commitment to manage the business on a day to day basis within P.E.I.
