Relief for Indian nurses as the UK government eases immigration rules

It’s a big relief for the Indian nurses who are working in the Britain, as the government of UK has included the profession of nursing in the list of ‘short occupation’, which means that around 30,000 foreign nurses including those from India will not be asked for leaving the UK.

Previously, the National Health Service of the UK announced that under the new rules which are going to be enforced, nurse can reside in the UK in case she is earning at least 35,000 pounds per annum.  The majority of the nurses who cannot reach this scale of pay which is meant for the senior nurses will be asked to leave the country.

Recently the UK government announced the temporary changes in the restrictions on the recruitment of the nurses from non-European Economic Area for ensuring that the secure staffing across the NHS.  The UK is planning to process the applications of the trained nurses from the non-EU nations in 70 days.

India is happy with the announcement, as the health ministry hoped that India will benefit from the new immigration policy of the UK’ and attracting the returning nurses with the jobs. India has already got shortage of almost 2.4 million nurses.

The new policy of immigration which is intending to limit the number of migrants who are living in the UK will lead around 70,000 foreign nurses being sent back to India by the year 2020. The UK is starting to begin a campaign for the nurses who got experience and those who have left the left the job.

Indian Health Ministry, Additional Secretary, told that the UK’s loss is India’s gain. India has got a lot of space for absorbing Indian nurses who are planning to return back to India because of the new immigration norms in the UK.
