The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced a new website, which allows overseas nationals intending to visit Romania, to file their visa applications online. The ministry also announced that the site has come into effect on 17th April, 2014.
Romania has plans of easing the visa process, attracting more visitors, students, foreign investors and also to fill the shortage of employment at their embassies and consulates across the world.
Foreigners who are filing their applications to visit Romania have to initially submit the necessary details including name, purpose of visit, citizenship, duration, etc. After the details are submitted, the site asks the applicant whether he/she requires a visa. In case, if this query answered in the affirmative, the site provides the relevant answer in detail and also provides information about the necessary documents. Moreover, the site provides an option to upload the documents online. Once the visa file is accepted, the applicant can choose the date of appointment at the consulate, to present the original documents.
This project was sponsored by EU (European Union) funds and was worth around EUR 3.6 million.
