Amid increase in shortage for General Practitioners (GPs), the UK’s NHS is looking to hire many doctors from India on its Tier 2 visas for closing the gaps.
The job and training department of the NHS, England Health Education (HEE), had signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian based Hospitals.
The government of the UK had given HEE the task of raising the number of General Practitioners by 5000 by the year 2020, but the department was not successful for reaching to the targets for a training of GPs. The agreement with an Indian hospital could see many doctors coming to the UK after they pass the precise tests.
According to the HEE, the details of the agreement with the Indian hospitals are yet to be finalized. It also said that it understands the NHS was making plans for recruiting many General Practitioners.
According to a report, UK hires many overseas doctors than any other key European nation, with around over one-third of doctors born overseas.
