The automatic extension granted the EADs is said to be initiated to allow eligible Liberian immigrants take occupations while waiting for the new EADs. In the same vein, the extension will allow the American immigration body, the United States citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) sufficient time to process and issue the EADs to eligible and applied Liberian immigrants in the country.

The extension system was revealed yet of no importance to grant some Liberians the EADs because of the questions of their ineligibility for the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED). Conditions of ineligibility of those immigrants, however, include;

  • Immigrants that have been tested, tried and convicted guilty of certain criminal offenses.
  • Immigrants subjected to the mandatory blocks to the Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and
  • Those whose eviction from the system is considered of interest to the United States of America and its citizen’s safety.

It has also been observed that the exclusion reasons are not strict or sentimental ones but ones drawn in line with the safety of the immigrants, citizens of the country, as well as another means to protect law and order in the United States.

To further assist eligible candidates file their applications correctly, the USCIS is tasked with publicizing information regarding the recent time elongation in the line of EADs for eligible Liberian immigrants and guidelines on how to register and obtain the Employment Authorization pending the period of the DED extension.

Eligible candidates were also advised to visit the online portal of the scheme regularly for valuable information and coveted guidelines so as not to miss out of the best meant for them by the scheme.

However, many have considered the steps taken by United State in this regard as one that will continue to foster international unity in flexibility while also aiding the United States economy via injections into it by the incorporated working population by virtue of the policy. It was also said that the plan will help immigrants to quickly find their feet and do what is essential in time so as to get necessary documentation perfected in no hurries.
