The US is planning to hold the discussion with India in April on its complaint against the visa fee issue at the WTO.

US is ready to discuss visa fee issue with India in April


According to the official from the Ministry of Commerce, they are working with the lawyers to verify that the regulation discriminate against the IT firms of India in the US.

The official also said that they want the US to look their point of view at the stage of discussion and cancel the visa fee increase. India has to be ready to fight the case and that the legal team is trying to verify the violation of WTO regulations on both the basis.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs officials, S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary  had taken up the issue with Michael Froman, US Trade Representative, and stressed out the possible affect the visa fee increase would have on the IT firms of India.

The official also told that the MEA is desperate to settle down the issue during the process of WTO discussion as they don’t want another mess with the US on business and monetary issues. Meanwhile, the US had recommended 5th and 6th April for the discussions. We would inspect the availability of our officials at that time and reply to them accordingly.
