The new form of N-400 also comes with 2D barcodes at the end of every page. Based on the answers provided by the applicant to the question on the online version of the form N-400 barcodes will be changed, and this information is transferred to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. For the most part, the USCIS encourages the usage of electronic version of form N-400, at the same time it will also continue to accept paper applications.

In addition to making changes to the form N-400, USCIS also released a short video of instructions related to the form that focus on new instructions and main changes to the form N-400. At this moment, the USCIS will accept both versions of N-400 form, but from 5th May, 2014 new version of the form N-400 will only be accepted.

As the new form N-400 is lengthy, it will take extra time for the applicants to complete the form. It is not yet certain, how far the new instructions will help the USCIS to assess the application faster.
