The post-graduate work permit (PGWP) program of Canada let foreign students who had finished their graduation to get the work permit. The graduates could work for the employer in any province of Canada.
It is a implausible program that increases the competitiveness of the post secondary institutions of Canada and it is an important step for the foreign graduates who are looking to get the permanent residency of Canada.
Who is eligible?
To get a PGWP after completing graduation in Canada, a foreign student should have a valid study permit while they apply for their PGWP. They should undertake full time education in Canada. They had passed the study program which is of minimum eight months of duration at either private or public secondary institution. they should apply for the work permit within three months of getting the written confirmation from their college or institution.
The duration of this PGWP is equivalent in the length to the study program completed, upto three years. Any program that is more than two years would result in three year work permit.
It is significant for the students to note that here the length of the study program that matters, and not the actual time that it takes a foreign student to finish the program.
Working on a work permit
Graduates might submit their applications online or they can also apply at the foreign visa office. Students who had concluded their study program and who had applied for their work permit are allowed to work in Canada while the IRCC process their application.
Unlike the foreign students, the spouses or com law partners of PGWP holders are not entitled to work permits. They would be eligible only if the holder of the PGWP program get the skilled job and could prove this to the IRCC by submitting a job offer along with the copy of pay slips.
