Many immigrants in the US are applying for US citizenship and according to a report, when compared to the previous years, the applications for US citizenship have been raised by 14%.

The reason many people are applying for US citizenship is that they want to vote in the coming presidential elections this year. 

Lawful permanent residents qualify to apply for US citizenship if they are residing in the US since five years.  The application form for US citizenship is 20 pages long. The applicant needs to submit their fingerprints and should also complete a English and civics test.  

Many people who had began their process of citizenship application has got less time for submitting if they are looking to vote in this year’s election.  The last date for enrolling to vote is 14th October and if a probable candidate gets the citizenship after the last date, then they got time till 29th October for registering to vote on Empire State voter rolls.

As per the information from the USCIS, presently, the processing time for application of citizenship in the New York takes around eight months to complete.

According to a report, there are around nine million people holding US Green Card who are entitled to apply for US citizenship.
