New Brunswick Changes Selection Factors for Immigration of Skilled Workers

New Brunswick revamped the selection factors and eligibility requirements for its Skilled Worker Stream. As per the new application guide in September 2019 several changes were made to language, age, education, job offer and experience requirements in the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program. The stream includes at the start has a few Eligibility Requirements that candidates have to meet, before they get a score based on six Factors of Selection.

NB Skilled Worker Stream: Changes in Eligibility Requirements 


The changes made to the Eligibility Requirements add the National Occupational Classification codes in the job offer. It requires a real job offer for full-time in any of these categories:

  • Semi-skilled workers: NOC C. 
  • High-skilled workmen: NOC 0, A, B.
  • Low-skilled workers: NOC D in skill types 7, 8, 9.

The stream additionally requires candidates to get an offer of a competitive wage and possess necessary certification or license for all regulated occupations.

NB Skilled Worker Stream: Changes in Selection Factor 


Before the change, candidates had to score 50 points in selection factors for the SW Stream. Now the stream requires the score of 60.

Norms in Age

The range age for qualifying was changed to 19 to 55 years from 22 to 55-years, and they can score maximum 10 points.

Language requirements

In the past the maximum points were 15 but the new requirements give 28 points for Canadian Language Benchmark 4 in English/French 

Education benchmarks

In the Secondary education as per the minimum requirement 18 points were allotted for education. But the new stream allots 20 points.

Work Experience Requirements

As per the modern requirements work experience has to be full time, that is gained during the past five years, in the NOC relevant to the job offer of a candidate. Candidates need an experience of one year, except for international graduates, for whom there is no requirement for experience. There are 20 points available and in the old system it was just 10.

The case of Priority Sectors

There are new priority sectors in the changed stream with an award of 10 points for a job offer covering:

  • Health care
  • Transportation
  • Manufacturing
  • Business service centers
  • Education

Adaptability

In The new stream there is a revised list covering the adaptability factors for the main candidate and also the common law partner or spouse.  Also, the New Brunswick has launched the online application system for its PNP, with the name of INB Portal.

  • The New Brunswick Express Entry Stream
  • The New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream 
  • The New Brunswick Post-Graduate Entrepreneurial Stream
  • The New Brunswick Entrepreneurial Stream
