US will reach out to the students with relevant information
The US establishments in India has decided to take steps for ensuring that the students who seek to visit the US for higher education get genuine information about the potential universities and all the travel related issues.
The result came weeks after over many students from India who got enrolled in two universities in California were denied entry in the nation on the grounds of insufficient travel documents.
According to Richard R Verma, US Ambassador, the website of the EducationUSA was official source for data on the institutions in the US. There are offices in and around seven cities in India that offer resource and professional support to the students.
He also said that the centre is equipped with the libraries and the information desks, it also organizes interactive events and seminars for the potential students. Around 1.2 lakh students and their parents had contacted the centre previous year.
According to him, they would try to double their efforts and would also make sure that these kind of situations are reduced.
Previous year, around 1.3 lakh students from India had made it to different US universities. But few students who had been offered admission were extradited in recent weeks.
According to an embassy official, students who are issued visas might from now on would be asked whether they had seen the EducationUSA website or not. The idea was not to revoke the student visas but to get an estimation of how many students had looked up the data available on the website.
According to Furqan Qamar, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities, there were more than thousand degree issuing institutions in the US. While choosing the university, students require to find out the seat to application ratio, tuition fee and income after the placement. Such data is made available on the EducationUSA website. Students can also verify the legitimacy of the universities from the handbook that is published by Foreign Association of Universities.
