Canada's new requirements for visa free travelers

The Canada government changed the rules and issued a new revision of requirements to all the visa exempted countries visiting Canada by air.

With effect from March 15, 2016, the visitors belonging to visa exempt countries must obtain the electronic travel authorization (eTA). This application will be submitted from online and this is available from august 1, 2015.

The citizens of 58 countries which are benefited from visa free travel to Canada now require an electronic travel authorization (eTA) before entering Canada. This eTA is electronically linked to passport with a validity for five years or till the passport expires.

Canada entry requirements for visa exempted travelers

This is not any kind of visa requirement but only a simple authorization requirement to make a smooth immigration processing to enter in Canada. Hence, eTA will not effect to visa free entry, it is only an authorization.

Department of citizenship and immigration of Canada says, this new requirement is to ensure a common approach by screening of travelers outside of north America on the same lines of current US electronic system for travel authorization.

The affecting travelers will have to apply through eTA starting from august 1, 2015. eTA applications will be approved electronically within a minutes with a cost of $7CDN.
