From very long South East Asia region has always been most attractive destinations for India, and also India has been on the list of top ten sources for tourists flowing to the region.

In the last year, there were more than 102 million visitors travelled to the ASEAN countries, out of them over 3 million tourists are from India, explained Manohar Periasamy, chairman ASEAN promotional chapter of tourism.

All of the ASEAN countries tourism boards are been planning to celebrate a visit ASEAN year during 2017.

However, among the tourists travelling to ASEAN countries from India about 80 percent were going to the countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, which indicates the overwhelming popularity among Indians for those countries. The direct air links are of the factors for the increasing tourist in those countries.

The proposal of ASEAN common visa has been in the discussion as the current need of multiple visa is restricting the cross-border tourism in the ASEAN region. And the common airline pass covering all the regions is also in the consideration, Manohar Periasamy added.
