Ananth SM was offered a full-time Ph.D. by University of Melbourne in August 2015, he applied for Australian visa based on the offer. He did not get a response from the Australia, then he approached Mr. Tharoor to know the reasons.

When Mr. Tharoor wrote to the Australian high commissioner on this issue, Ananth has issued a letter, which questioned his intention behind moving to Australia, implicated him of possible involvement in the proliferation of WMDs.
