Azerbaijan relaxes visa norms for Iran nationals
The Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Iran, Mahmoud Vaezi, announced that the Iran and Azerbaijan Governments have accepted to place a one-month single entry visa for citizens of Iran to enter into the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic's territory.
The cost of the single entry visa is 10 Euros and these visas will be issued on the territory of the Nakhchivan International Airport, Julfa, Shakhtakhti, and Sadarak checkpoints.
Earlier in 2012, the Azerbaijan’s Parliament (Milli Majlis) has cancelled a memorandum between the governments of two nations. The memorandum is related to relax border crossing for citizens of two nations. It allowed the free movement of citizens of the border territories of Iran to West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, East Azerbaijan, and in turn boosted tourism and economic relations of both the nations.
The Minister has asked Azerbaijan either to re-start the memorandum or to annul the visa regime for citizens of Iran. The Azerbaijani agreed to introduce a single entry visa to travel to Nakhchivan. However, the chance for extending this streamlined procedure to enter into the rest of the territories of Azerbaijan is not yet regulated.
