CIC has been renamed as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

February 18, 2016
The Department of Canadian Government known as Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has been renamed as Immigration Refugees Citizenship Canada (IRCC).  The use of this name started after the new Canadian government started working in the month of November 2015.

CIC has been renamed as Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

IRCC assists the immigrants arrival, offer protection to refugees and also offer programs to assist individuals to settle down in Canada. IRCC authorization also extends to issuing citizenship, granting travel documents to the people of Canada and also promotes multiculturalism.

One should also note that CIC and IRCC are not two different departments. The IRCC is not a latest department, but the successor to the one that was there since many years.  CIC might continue to be used for some time by stake holders like provincial and territorial governments of Canada.

The Canadian government had made it clear that they would uphold an immigration policy for migrants with skills and family class programs. The Canadian government has promised to raise the funds allotted to IRCC for improving the processing time and program delivery. The Prime Minister had also asked his ministers to raise the utmost age for dependent to 22 from 19 years, to permit additional citizen of Canada to bring their kids to Canada, to provide more points under the Express Entry system to provide more chances for the applicants who have Canadian siblings.
