India would take up the matter regarding the UK’s latest visa law with its British counterparts. This is the law which would affect many professionals from across the globe who are working in the UK, especially the professionals from India.
According to Industry and Commerce Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, India would take up this issue with authorities in the UK. She also told that India had also taken a same issue regarding the US visa regulations at the WTO. She also added that they had challenged the US in the WTO, and the principle applies for any other nation as well.
Indian professionals are facing the visa related challenges in other countries like the US, and India had taken the US to WTO over its visa fee issue.
Professionals from India had formed the biggest category of people who has been granted certain visas by the UK since many years.
As per the statistics from UK National Statistics Office, out of the entire 55,589 Tier 2 visas granted around 31,058 were issued to the Indians and that accounts for 78%.
Large number of Indian citizens who are living in the UK might get affected by this latest law. The exact statistics of those individuals who are going to affect with this latest income threshold need stays uncertain but it is predicted that the number would be between 30,000 to 40,000 employees.
This visa is issued on basis of the sponsorship certificate which is issued to the UK based firms to hire professionals from non EU nations and permits them a utmost stay of six years.
After five years, these employees can apply for PR or an indefinite leave to remain in the UK. From the coming month, those candidates qualifying for ILR under category of five years should also provide evidence that they earn a minimum of 35,000 each year.
