Myanmar's  ministry of Information has announced on 1st May, 2014,Thursday that it will ease visa rules for those journalists coming from abroad to provide news coverage of the meeting of the ASEAN countries which is scheduled for the latter part of this month.

According to the ministry, under the new rules regime, the multiple entry visa rule, which was for a time duration of one month, will now be streamlined further. These visas can now be issued twice.

Journalists have been requested and counseled to apply again for a new visa, if they need one, after a gap of three months and at the Myanmar embassies which first provided/presented them these visas.

And as for those alien journalists who happen to be residing in Myanmar, they will be provided the privilege of further increasing their duration of stay periods, every half year.

Myanmar is the venue for this year’s venue of ASEAN summit and this is the first time it is holding the event. It became part of ASEAN in 1997. The conference event  is scheduled to be held on May 10-11, at the Myanmar International Convention Center in Nay Pyi Taw.
