Many of the students are following about this STEM related OPT program very closely. As the original time limit of 12th February 2016 is approaching very quickly.
The OPT program is part of program for F-1 visa. Many students qualify for a year of OPT after graduation.
Students with STEM related subjects could qualify for an extra 17 months of OPT program in certain circumstances.
This STEM related OPT program was challenged in the court. The court agreed but granted the time to the government till 12th February 2016 to abide by.
The US government has published a planned regulation, as needed in time to obey. However the people reply to the regulation was exceptional as over 50,000 comments were submitted. Therefore the limit for issuing the concluding regulation in time for meeting the 12th February 2016 has passed.
The US government had asked for three months extension to the deadline. The STEM related OPT program will end on 12th February 2016.
Those students who are planning to apply for the H-1B visa might still do it. 1st October 2016 will be the earliest that the job can be authorized.
