Niti Aayog which is a Government organization has made a proposal to increase the period of validity of e-Visas to ten years. It also seeks the enhancement of the number of yearly visits for e-medical visa holders for attracting tourists.
Presently, the period of validity in e-Visa is 60 days calculated from the time of arriving in the country. Moreover, the e-Conference visa is valid for only 30 days. Authorities allow Double entry on e-Business/ e-Tourist visas and Triple entry on e-Medical Attendant visa and e-Medical visa. Single entry holds good for an e-Conference visa. People can avail e-Visa can thrice in a calendar year.
Attending the shortcoming
A report entitled 'The Strategy for New India @ 75', of Niti Aayog says that in spite of introducing e-Visa facility, it is cumbersome for visitors to apply for a visa.
There needs to be a focus on increasing awareness on e-Visa at a global level by having an informative campaign involving the consulates abroad. The clientele must also be attracted from the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions market. The reason to increase the period of validity of e-Visas to ten years is to attract repeat visitors.
The limited period does not meet the requirements of patients needing a follow-up or post-operation care. India must also go for increasing the number of persons, who accompany the e-medical visa holders to four in the same visa. This is already happening in Malaysia.
18.78 lakh overseas persons visited India in the Jan-Oct 2018 on e-Visa. This is comparatively higher to 4.47 lakh visitors of 2015. The citizens from the US, the UK, China, Germany and France came in big numbers to avail this facility. We bring the latest facts and trends before you. Please contact us.
