Arrival of overseas tourists has increased in December

Overseas tourist arrivals in India is consistently increasing, in the month of December last year, around 9.13 lakh foreign tourists have arrived in India with an increase of 3.2% when compared to 8.85 lakh in 2014. 

During last year’s period of January and December, around 80.16 lakh travelers had arrived in India, an increase of 10.2% when compared to 76.79 lakh tourists who visited India in the year 2014.

From the source nation point of view,  large number of tourists visited from the US with 18.67%, Bangladesh stood at second spot with 11.64% and the UK with 11.60%. Few other top source nations includes Canada, Australia, Russia and Singapore.

During the last year’s period of January till November month, overseas travelers to India were 71 lakh with an increase of 4.5% compared to same period of 2014. 

Among other steps, the scheme of  e-tourist visa which was started by the Indian government had resulted in the spurt in the overseas travelers arrivals.

During the period of 11 months last year,  a total of 3.41 lakh overseas travelers had visited India on e-tourist visas, making it almost a 12 fold hike when compared to the same period in the year 2014.
