Indian students at the US Universities increase by 28%

The number of Indian students at the United States Universities rose by 28 % this year. The increase brings the number of Indian students close to 200000 studying in the country.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that currently, 192723 Indian students are studying in the United States Universities by June 2016. Despite the remarkable increase in the number of Indian students, China still retains its top position in the list. China has although seen a surge by 7.2% over previous year. 

1.11 million International students are studying at the US Universities with ‘F’ (academic) or ‘M’ (vocational) status. The report was created based on Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), part of the US Immigration.

According to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) data, by July 7, 2016, international students’ enrollments increased by 5.5 %over the previous year. 

Out of 467000 international students, 42%are enrolled in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). 

83% of Indian students have registered under the STEM programs offered by the US Universities.
