Minister for Hotels and Tourism for Myanmar, Htay Aung said that the government intends to initiate e-visa program in September 2014, before the start of tourism season in October.
The new e-visa program will make it easy for tourists visiting the country, and is likely to cause the growth in the tourism sector.
The tourism sector has produced US$534 million as revenue in 2012 and $926 million in 2013.
The e-visa programme, which is a part of Myanmar Tourism Master Plan, has 38 projects, and the cost towards the plan is likely to cost $486 million. The government has set a target of 3.1 million tourist arrivals for this year, and is likely to reach 7 million by 2020.
Moreover, tourism industry is likely to produce over 1billion US$ in terms of revenue during this year.
