South Africa prolongs residence permit for Zimbabweans

The Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba  has announced extension of special permits for a period of three years authorizing Zimbabwean’s to work and stay in the nation under the Zimbabwean Dispensation Project (ZDP).

This project has issued 245,000 special permits to Zimbabweans in 2009 allowing those, who by that time were in South Africa without visas to work and reside.

Eligible Zimbabweans can file their applications for a new permit from October that would expire in 2017, after which they have to return to Zimbabwe to file their applications for relevant visas to reside in South Africa.

The minister said that the new permit will authorize the permit holders to reside, work, do business and study in South Africa within the period of visa that is applicable until 31 December 2017.

Immigrants are appreciated for their contribution to the nation as regards to the enhancement of social, economic and cultural life, the minister added.
