UK's New Tech visa Scheme will support Northern Powerhouse

October 27, 2015
UK’s Government body Tech City UK had made many changes to their visa scheme for top technology talent including the measures taken for enabling the team hiring and supporting the Northern Powerhouse.

Northern Powerhouse is the proposal made by the Coalition and the Conservative government in the UK for boosting the economic growth in Northern England region.

UK’s New Tech visa Scheme will support Northern Powerhouse and enable team hiring

Previously the Tech City was struggling for attracting the skilled workers through their current programme for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa.  With its emergence in the month of April with only seven visas that has been granted through that scheme ever since it was placed a year before.

But the Tech City consulted with various founders, senior management and CEOs from the community of digital business and then they added four new requirements to this scheme in an effort for boosting the number of talent to come and work in the UK, in its technology sector from non-EU countries.

The important measure for the businesses would be options for the teams of five to apply altogether for the consideration. According to the Tech City, this move will enable the British firms to attract the most talented teams that possess the proven track record of collaboration, creativity and the commercial vision.

In an effort for supporting the Northern Powerhouse Scheme by Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, the changes also point out the new responsibilities for the Tech North. Tech North is the arm of Tech City which is aiming at supporting and promoting the Northern Technology sector. The Tech North will also have the same rules as the Tech City for offering the services of visa support to the companies that are looking to hire employees from abroad.

There would be a process of fast track application for seven cities under the remit of Tech North which includes cities like Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland, Sheffield, Hull and Manchester.

According to the Digital Economy Minister, Ed Vaizey, there are almost 17,000 people who are already working in the technological companies all over the North. And today’s announcement will promote that strategy. And this new visa scheme will be supporting the faster growing digital businesses in their effort of bringing the brightest and best to the UK. As the minister also stakes his claim of bringing the Tech Nation on the universal stage.

This programme also includes the specific requirements for scale-ups. Tech City also said that the fast track service would be provided for the individuals with the related skills for growing a technological company.

The other addition that has made by the Tech City is the requirement for hires, those who show the exceptional promise and are required for filling the talent gap.
